Social Responsibility

Winter Charity Blanket Drive

For the first time in 2018 we did a Winter Charity Blanket Drive with a charity called Help Where It Hurts. All of the Wiesenhof and Dulce stores throughout South Africa had boxes in all of their stores where customers and staff from their hospital and/or Makro would place blankets, winter clothes or similar and in turn these items would be distributed to the local community in need. We involved local schools such as our site in Life Fourways had their local school make up sleeping bags made upof newspapers which would be distributed to the homeless in their area. We will be running a similar campaign in 2019.

Annual Golf Day

For the last 7 years we have held our successful golf days where we raised funds, together with our suppliers and franchisees, to go towards the running cost of Forest Town School for Learners with Special Needs.

We have raised well over a R1,000,000 in this regard and look forward to our golf day in October 2019. Forest Town School also runs their own internal café whereupon we sponsor all coffee products as well astrain their baristas on a quarterly basis.

Wilderness Foundation Africa

Since the launch of our menu in 2017 we have beendonating 60cents of each cappuccino sold throughout all of our stores across South Africa gets donated to the Wilderness Foundation Africa. Wilderness Foundation Africa’s Forever Wild Conservation Programme was developed in 2011 as a response to the rhino poaching crisis and has been active through the Rhino Protection Initiative. It was further expanded to include lion, leopard, elephant and shark conservation initiatives as they represent key species symptomatic of the challenges facing the environments in which they live. Wilderness Foundation Africa also focuses on empowering youth through hospitality training which is why they are such a good match to our brands. We further train their baristas on a voluntary capacity.
